WaterTalks is being implemented in three regions in the Los Angeles-Ventura Funding Area: Greater Los Angeles County Region, Watersheds Coalition of Ventura County, and Upper Santa Clara River.  Funded through the California Department of Water Resources, the program is designed to generate and increase community involvement in planning a sustainable water future for California.  The project team is using a broad set of strategies, including working with community-based organizations (CBOs) to engage public participation in WaterTalks activities and events.  PlaceWorks’ engagement activities included developing and disseminating information regarding water resources and opportunities to participate in the planning process, and supporting CBOs in helping communities advance water-related programs and projects.  PlaceWorks assisted in developing and administering an online survey, which will inform the technical assistance program to occur in the next phase of the project.

Additionally, we developed a wide range of informational materials, including engaging and attractive print materials and online messaging and outreach campaigns to share educational materials and encourage survey participation.  Future phases of the project will include support with the development of project concepts and proposals that will be eligible to apply for water-related funding.
