It was a busy awards season for PlaceWorks and our clients. Our projects received recognition from four different APA California sections, in addition to two state-level awards. This makes six awards for Devil’s Slide Coastal Trail and three for the Healthy Communities Practical Guide.

The LA County Board of Supervisors certified the countywide general plan EIR on March 24 and indicated its intent to adopt the general plan, planning a second reading of the resolutions before final adoption. The Antelope Valley Area Plan EIR was also certified, on November 12, and the board will probably adopt both plans at the same time. PlaceWorks prepared both EIRs.

The American Planning Association’s Planning Advisory Service recognized PlaceWorks’ contribution to the emerging practice of geodesign in the March/April PAS Memo, “Geodesign and the Future of Planning.”

The AEP state conference in Santa Barbara was a great success. PlaceWorks staff moderated or otherwise participated in in seven workshops. Amid all the other activity, the PlaceWorks booth had a run on our “Practical Guide to CEQA.”

David Early once again presented at Esri’s annual Geodesign Summit. David discussed how PlaceWorks uses Esri’s web-based app GeoPlanner to tackle planning challenges faced by communities in California.
