Tactical Urbanism in Downtown San Bernardino

PlaceWorks, along with City staff and other members of the San Bernardino 2050 project team, recently held a highly successful tactical urbanism demonstration in Downtown San Bernardino.

The interactive event utilized SCAG’s Go Human Kit of Parts, a lending library that provides pop-up materials to “temporarily demonstrate potential and planned street design treatments and safety infrastructure to create safer and more inviting public spaces.”

The demonstration included a separated bike lane, creative crosswalk treatments, a parklet, and curb extensions—effectively showcasing the potential for new and innovative pedestrian and bicycle amenities in Downtown San Bernardino. Held in conjunction with the popular San Bernardino Arts Fest, the event engaged approximately 100 community members and provided useful insights for the project team.
