Midtown Specific Plan Spurs Revitalization
The award-winning Midtown Specific Plan & EIR provides a framework for revitalization that has helped spur new development and other key improvements along Long Beach Boulevard and the surrounding neighborhood.
The City of Long Beach and its partners have continued to build upon that framework, and last summer the community celebrated the opening of Spark at Midtown, an innovative mixed-use affordable housing project that also includes the conversion of Rhea Street into a pedestrian-friendly parklet with bicycle parking.
Recently featured in the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Office of Policy Development and Research’s online magazine, Spark at Midtown “embodies the plan’s guiding principles for creating a vibrant and thriving neighborhood: enhanced mobility, a sustainable future, safety and wellness, urban amenities, and working with and for the community.”
