PlaceWorks Welcomes Alan Loomis

PlaceWorks Welcomes Alan Loomis, AICP, as a Principal of Urban Design in our Downtown Los Angeles Office

An award-winning urban designer and educator with 25 years of experience, Alan joins us from the City of Santa Monica, where he served as City Urban Designer for the past three years and helped lead Promenade 3.0, a strategic design plan to re-envision the iconic Third Street Promenade.

Prior to Santa Monica, Alan spent 12 years leading the urban design program for the City of Glendale, starting in 2005 as the city’s first on-staff urban designer. In 2015, he was named Deputy Director of the Glendale Community Development Department to lead the newly formed Urban Design & Mobility Division, which combined design review, historic preservation, transportation policies, and community outreach to provide a holistic approach to citywide planning.

Alan will be responsible for growing PlaceWorks’ urban design practice in the Los Angeles region and will play a key role in high-profile design projects throughout California.
