PlaceWorks’ LA County Parks Plan Wins National APA Award

The Los Angeles County Master Plan for Sustainable Parks and Recreation: Phase I was recently awarded a National American Planning Association award for Excellence in Sustainability. The Sustainable Communities Division of APA presented the award at the 2019 National Planning Conference in San Francisco.

Completed in 2016, the Los Angeles County Master Plan for Sustainable Parks and Recreation resulted in plans for six underserved, unincorporated communities in Los Angeles County. The plans analyzed parkland gaps, safety, and connectivity and included conceptual designs and urban forestry plans. The planning process incorporated intensive community outreach that included stakeholder meetings, focus groups, community tours and workshops, outreach fairs, surveys, and an online youth engagement contest. The project has also received awards from the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG), California Urban Forests Council, and the Los Angeles Section of APA California.
