PlaceWorks collaborated with Canopy, a community-based nonprofit, and their Urban Forestry Team to design a new outdoor classroom space for Hoover Elementary School in Redwood City. To ensure robust community input, PlaceWorks trained youth members of the Urban Forestry Team to facilitate design workshops to help stakeholders and community members envision the future school space.

Based on the feedback gathered, PlaceWorks developed a design concept that included lawn removal and drought-tolerant planting, expansive tree planting, a new decomposed granite pathway, and a seating area. After the outreach and design phases, Canopy worked with local volunteers to implement the project.
