WRCOG Sustainability Framework

PlaceWorks helped the Western Riverside Council of Governments take the first step in a subregional sustainability planning process with the creation of the Sustainability Framework. With funding provided by the Southern California Association of Government’s Compass Blueprint program and in conjunction with the California Air Resources Board, the framework not only accounts for the environmental challenges this area faces but includes factors affecting quality of life. Six subcommittees formed the pillars of the framework. They evaluated economic development, education, health, transportation, water and wastewater, and energy and the environment. The document defines the role WRCOG should play in nurturing a sustainable foundation: advocacy, acting regionally, convening a dialogue, and facilitating local action.
