San Bernardino County Climate Adaptation and Resiliency Strategy

This comprehensive climate adaptation and resiliency strategy is based on an extensive social and physical vulnerability assessment that analyzes how people in over 70 distinct populations and assets throughout the county could be affected by the increased heat, drought, flooding, and wildfire threats posed by climate change It identifies potential weaknesses and vulnerabilities in important buildings and infrastructure networks and evaluates the threats to local ecosystems. Based on this assessment, the strategy far exceeds standard practice or guidance, addressing the full spectrum of identified climate vulnerabilities. Its policies improve resiliency by guiding modifications to the built environment, encouraging social support networks, and protecting key ecosystems. The strategy will be integrated into the Countywide Plan, ensuring that resiliency will be a core principle of future growth and development.
