PlaceWorks’ Hazard Mitigation Planning Services

July 27, 2017:
If disaster strikes, will your community be ready? Natural and man‑made hazards can hit anywhere, any time. Hazard mitigation planning can help reduce property damage, speed the response and recovery process, and most importantly, save lives.

To help communities become safer and more resilient, PlaceWorks now offers comprehensive Hazard Mitigation Planning services, including Emergency Operation Plans, Local Hazard Mitigation Plans (LHMPs), General Plan Safety Elements, and hazards analyses for development projects and CEQA documents. As part of our expanded services, PlaceWorks can help clients identify and secure grant funding to prepare or update their LHMP and ensure eligibility for mitigation project funding in the future.

To help lead this expansion, PlaceWorks welcomes Aaron Pfannenstiel, AICP, LEED AP, as a Senior Associate. Aaron has over 15 years of experience working with communities of all sizes to address natural hazards and is actively involved in the American Planning Association’s (APA) Hazard Mitigation and Disaster Recovery Division, the California Planning Foundation, and the Inland Empire Section of APA’s California Chapter. He has also served on the board of the Natural Hazard Mitigation Association and currently volunteers his time with a non-profit organization focused on improving disaster preparedness and resilience in rural Nepal.

As a recognized leader in the field of hazard mitigation planning and resiliency, Aaron will be presenting at both the upcoming California Climate Action Planning Conference in San Luis Obispo and the APA California Conference in Sacramento. Based in the Inland Empire, Aaron works closely with PlaceWorks staff and clients throughout the state to help communities become better prepared and more disaster-resistant.
