Lakeside Green Streets/Snow Park

Working closely with the City of Oakland, PlaceWorks led a team of consultants to revitalize 14 acres of beloved public green space along Oakland’s iconic Lake Merritt at the intersection of Lakeside Drive and Harrison Street. The intersection itself was completely reconfigured as part of the project and replaced with a grand walking promenade. Roadway pavement gave way to planters for stormwater treatment, a separated cycle track, and pedestrian connections to Oakland’s growing multimodal corridor system. The newly redesigned Snow Park now features a colorful, terraced play area, gently rolling lawns, and walking paths. Additionally, local sculptors WowHaus designed a mythical water-dwelling creature that inhabits the raingarden at the heart of the park and evokes the nearby lake.
