Laguna Beach Local Hazard Mitigation Plan and Safety Element Update

PlaceWorks helped develop Laguna Beach’s first Local Hazard Mitigation Plan (LHMP) to address the effects of climate change, as well as prepare for a range of potential natural hazards, such as coastal erosion, severe storms, flooding, landslides, and wildfire. The plan’s comprehensive mitigation actions will reduce the city’s vulnerability to disasters; improve its response capabilities; and decrease physical, social, and economic losses. The project featured an extensive community engagement process, which included an in-depth interview on the city’s independent radio station KX93.5 to introduce the planning process and solicit input from the community. PlaceWorks also assisted with a technical update to the general plan Safety Element to ensure compliance with Senate Bill 379, which requires safety elements to address climate adaptation and resiliency.
