Job Description:

PlaceWorks is seeking an Intern in San Luis Obispo to assist our Housing team for the Summer 2019. We are looking for an undergraduate or graduate student in the City and Regional Planning Department. This is a part-time, paid internship which would begin as two days a week during the summer, with the potential to continue during the academic year. The ideal candidate is creative, proactive, collaborative, outgoing, and passionate about helping shape and improve communities. Under the guidance and mentorship of Amy Sinsheimer, the intern would assist our team around the state with research, report writing, analysis, and preparation of materials for public outreach. Our team works on housing policy documents, assisting jurisdictions with accessing housing funds, administering housing programs, and implementing housing policy through zoning and other means.

You’re most likely a fit if:

  • You love planning for the future of communities and making a difference with your work.
  • You’re a current undergraduate or graduate student in the City and Regional Planning Department at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.
  • You’re able to work a minimum of 16 hours per week during the summer months.
  • You have excellent writing, research, and analytical skills with a high attention to detail.
  • You have strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills and aren’t afraid to ask questions.
  • Multi-tasking is second nature and you can produce project documents and work products by stated deadlines.
  • You have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
  • You’re familiar and proficient with Adobe Creative Suite and/or ArcGIS (this is a plus).

The rate of pay for this position is $16.00/hour for an undergraduate student or $18.00/hour for a graduate student.
