Job Description:

PlaceWorks is searching for interns to join our Santa Ana office for the Summer 2019! This is a part-time, paid internship during the summer months, with the potential to continue during the academic year. The ideal candidate is creative, proactive, collaborative, outgoing, and passionate about helping shape and improve communities and the environment. Under the guidance of a project manager who serves as a mentor, interns apply planning knowledge and technical skills to complete components of planning projects and will learn a combination of skills related to policy writing, land use planning/design principles, CEQA analysis, working with socioeconomic data, project management, and report preparation. Projects can include general and specific plans, master plans, zoning, policy planning, urban revitalization/infill, transportation projects, and local/regional transportation plans, as well as community engagement and environmental review.

  • You have excellent writing, formatting, and proofreading skills and are detail-oriented.
  • Engaging with the public excited you, and you’re willing to jump-in to help with outreach efforts.
  • You enjoy using your technical skills to assist in the creation of maps, plan documents, proposals, and presentations.
  • You’re a skilled researcher and enjoy analyzing and compiling research and data as required by a project.
  • Multi-tasking is second nature and you can product project documents and work products by stated deadlines.
  • You’re familiar and experienced with Adobe Creative Suite and/or ArcGIS.

Requirements:

  • A current graduate student pursuing a Master’s degree in urban, regional, environmental, or natural resource planning.
  • Must be able to work a minimum of 30 hours per week during the summer months.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
