Job Description:

PlaceWorks is seeking an Intern for the Environmental Team in our Santa Ana Office. To be eligible for this internship, you must be enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate program related to urban, regional, environmental, or natural resource planning; land use or environmental law; or environmental science. The ideal candidate has an interest in environmental planning and environmental analysis, and is passionate, energetic and engaged in using their skills for the betterment of communities and the environment. Under the guidance of a Project Manager, the intern will support Environmental Team staff members, and will acquire skills, in environmental analysis pursuant to CEQA and NEPA. This internship provides invaluable work experience and the opportunity to participate as a member of the Environmental Team; work alongside skilled professionals and leaders of the Company; and, build skills related to project management and planning, research, technical writing, data analysis, and CEQA/NEPA compliance.

Responsibilities Include:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Conducting research, compiling data, reviewing, analyzing, and assisting in the preparation of California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documents.
  • Assists in the production of final products and presentations.
  • Assists at community meetings by preparing meeting materials, taking notes, and facilitating small group discussions (these meetings may occur on weekday nights and weekends).
  • Assists with administrative project tasks to contribute to the successful completion of projects.
  • Assists other team members with performing site visits as needed.

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in urban, regional, environmental or natural resource planning; land use or environmental law; or environmental science.
  • A current undergraduate student with no more than one (1) academic year remaining before earning Bachelor’s degree; or, a current graduate student during second or third year of Master’s Program.
  • Able to commit to a 12-week internship (minimum) and be able to work at least 15 hours/week.
  • Excellent writing, research, and analytical skills.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task with project work and meet stated deadlines.
  • Able to work independently and in a highly collaborative environment with other team members.
