Title – Position:

ASSOCIATE OR SENIOR NOISE TECHNICAL SPECIALIST/ENGINEER/ACOUSTICIAN – Full Time

Location:

Santa Ana / Berkeley

Job Description:

PlaceWorks is seeking an associate- or senior-level environmental noise specialist/engineer. The specialist will help to prepare technically sound and legally defensible analyses and environmental impact assessment documentation per the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and/or National Environmental Quality Act (NEPA). The candidate will be responsible for environmental noise, acoustics, and vibration impact assessments. An ideal candidate will have 3+ years of experience conducting noise and vibration assessment for CEQA. Typical projects include general plans, specific plans, schools, residential (e.g., single-family tracts, multifamily complexes, and/or mixed-use) developments, warehouse, and commercial/industrial facilities projects.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Prepare technical reports that are clear, easy to follow, and tailored for the intended audience.
  • Generate succinct and informative presentations of technical results in both tabular and graphical formats.
  • Design and lead field studies to measure and characterize existing noise and vibration conditions in project areas.
  • Conduct noise/acoustic modeling for transportation and construction-related noise and vibration impacts. Knowledge of sound propagation modeling (such as TNM, SoundPLAN, or CadnaA) is a plus.
  • Research and interpret applicable regulations and standards.
  • For senior-level applicants: Train and mentor junior staff in the technical aspects of environmental noise and vibration impact assessment.
  • Develop appropriate mitigation measures when necessary.
  • Coordinate with public agencies and attend hearings.
  • Prepare proposals in pursuit of future project work opportunities.
  • Work creatively and independently as a member of a multioffice environmental team.

Qualifications:

Minimum:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, physics, acoustics, environmental sciences, or a related field
  • Proven track record in acoustic consulting pursuant to the requirements of CEQA or related experience
  • Advanced skills with high-level functions in Excel
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments concurrently
