Alverno High School Modernization

PlaceWorks prepared a Mitigated Negative Declaration and a noise technical study for the Alverno High School Master Plan. The Master Plan would permit the Catholic girls’ school to build a two-story multipurpose building, an amphitheater and reduce the permitted capacity from 500 seats to 400 seats. Project-specific noise, air quality, and traffic/parking analyses determined that impacts could be fully mitigated. However, existing noise generated by school dances and community on-campus activities resulted in neighborhood distrust, and the community opposed the proposed project. About a hundred comment letters were addressed and, two planning commission hearings later, the MND was adopted and the project was approved.
