66th Avenue Gateway Project

PlaceWorks collaborated with artists Valerie Otani and Fernanda D’Agostino through the Oakland Cultural Affairs Commission to design this gateway site at the western end of 66th Avenue along the Oakland Estuary. The design provides a respite from the adjacent Interstate 880 corridor and focuses visitors’ attention on the waterfront. PlaceWorks’ design, inspired by the undulating edges and patterns along the marsh, incorporates fluid shapes with a boardwalk connecting the overlook to the existing Bay Trail segment, and a public plaza.
